RAW BANANA FRY / CURRY

Raw  banana  - This  is  the  vegetable  which  is  very  good  for  health and  as  we  stay  in  Karnataka  here  we  eat  this  very  while , as  I for got  about  this  dish for  so many  days ,yesterday  when I went  to  market I saw this and  remembered that I for this one only .Before also  we learnt  three varieties with  this banana stem today  we  learn one different item  which  little  spicy and  this  is  mixed  of  my  innovation with  Konkani style .

Banana stem  is  potassium rich food with high fiber content and  it  has  many amazing health benefits . Most people include banana in their daily diet , but very few know that stem is very nutritive and  has  very great  health  benefits . The  stem  is  usually  thrown  away  once  the  fruit  is  cut from  the  plant . So next  time  if you happen  to find  one  do  this  recipe . But  now a days we find them  in  market's or stores  in  all areas in seasons as now  it  is  the  season .

Banana stem  helps in your  weight  loss program you  fell  full very  fast  with  little  rice or  one  roti also by that  you  can  reduce  your  weight by  including  this  curry / vegetable once  or  twice  in  your  menu .So why  to  delay  let's do it very  easy to do and tasty  to  eat .  


Ingredients - 

  1. Banana stem - 1 
  2. Grated fresh coconut - 1 cups
  3. Red chillies - 5 
  4. Tamarind - 1 tiny piece 
  5. Turmeric - 1/ 4 tsp
  6. Moong dal -  1 cup
  7. Curry leaves - 1 string 
  8. Cilantro - 1/4 cup
  9. Hing  / Asafoetida - a pinch 
  10. Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
  11. Blac  pepper  powder - 1/2 tsp
  12. Salt - as per
  13. Oil - 2 tsp
Method  of  preparation - 
  • First  you  have  to  ground  fresh coconut , red chillies , salt , tamarind , pepper pods  into  a  fine  paste .

  • Cut  the  banana outer hard layer and throw it , next  use  the  inner  layer only ,

  • Cut  the  plantain  stem into  small pieces  by  removing  fibre  and  place  it  in  a  bowl  of  water  and  add 5 tsp  of  curd and  mix  well and  keep aside as  banana stem doesn't change color .



  • Heat  oil  in  frying  pan  and  when  hot  add  cumin  seeds  and  curry leaves  when  start  cracking  add  hing / asafoetida  and fry  for  a sec and  add  washed  moong  dal  and  saute  well  for  a  sec  on  low  flame  and  add  1 glass of  water 
  • Cook  on  low  flame  by  closing  the  lid  for  5 mint's .
  • Once  moong  dal  is  partial  cooked {five mint's  is enough} add  chopped  banana stem  pieces and if need  add  some  more  water 

  • Let  it  cook  by  closing  the  lid  {it  cooks  very  fast} more 9  mint's  remove  the  lid  check  it  weather  it  is  cooked  add  prepared  masala  paste , turmeric powder  and  saute  well  .
  • And  close  the  lid  and  cook  for more  5  mint's and  turn  off  from  flame 
Serve  this  curry  with  steamed  rice  and  chepathi .
