DILL LEAVES PODI KUURA - FOR RICE


Dil  leaves  are also known as suva in hindi and  shepu in marathi and sappaki soppu in  kannada .Dill leaves has a strong aroma and slight pungent taste .Nevertheless , it makes for a great dish , by itself or in combination with another vegetable or legume .You  have to add  menthi  kura  / fenugreek leaves to make this  podi kura .It is good for  rice .

Ingredients  -
  1. Dill leaves - 2 bunches 
  2. Menthi  leaves - 1 bunch
  3. Toor dal - 1 cup 
  4. Onion - 2
  5. Oil - 3 tsp
  6. Green chillies - 4  - 3
  7. Salt as per 
  8. Sugar - 1/2 tsp
  9. Fresh coconut - 6 tsp [ grated ]
  10. Tomatoes - 1
Talimpu - 
  1. Urad dal - 1/3 tsp
  2. Mustard seeds - 1/3 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds - 1/3 tsp
  4. Curry leaves - 4 

-: Method  of  preparation : -
  • Ground  all  green chilli and salt paste .
  • Remove the dill leaves from the stem , wash dill leaves thoroughly  in water and then chop them . 

  • Remove the menthi leaves from the stem , wash menthi  leaves thoroughly  in water 

  • Also  peel  and wash  onion and chop into pieces .
  • Wash  toor dal  with fresh water and transfer in a pressure cooker with washed dill leaves and menthi leaves

  •  and  add water  3 cups of water and  cook  for  3 - 4 visils .

  • In a frying pan add  oil when hot , add  talimpu   ingredients  in  order  add  onion and  tomatoes  when got  golden color  add green chilli paste  and sugar and  mix well .......................
  • After  5 mint's  add  cooked  toor dal and dill leaves and  menthi  leaves draining all  water 
  • And mix well for 5 - 10 mint's and  cook  well .
  • And  finally add  grated  coconut and mix well . Transfer to the serving bowel  and  serve for hot steamed  rice .
