BACHHALI AAKU CHUTNEY / PACHADI


Bachhali kura  is also called purslane leaves it is quite common leaf which is grown in the back yard of our houses ,now in cities we are buying it ,it tastes fentastic we can make several items ,now we learn podi kura with leaves and stems also as stems only have all vitamins than leaves .
Ingredients - 

  • Bachhali aaku - 1 bunch 

  • Salt to taste  
  • Green chillies - 4 
  • Red chillies - 3 
  • Onion - 2 
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp 
  • Chana dal - 1 tsp 
  • Dhaniya seeds [fried and powderd] /coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Sesame seeds / til seeds - 3 tsp 
  • Tamarind / chinthakaya thokku - 1 tsp 
  • Cilantro springs few / kottimeera 
  • Garlic - 5 pods 
  • Menthulu / Fenugreek seeds - 4 seeds 
Talimpu = 
  • Curry leaves - 9 
  • Urad dal - 1/3 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/3 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/3 tsp 
  • Hing - a pinch 
Method of preparation - 

BACHALI AAKU - 

  • Wash and chop leaves and stems of purslane leaves [ clean the stems carefully by removing very hard part ]
  • Remove stems and wash and slit green chillies 
  • Peel and wash and chop onions 
  • Wash and tear curry leaves and cilantro springs
  • Boil purslane leaves and stems in a bowl with water on stove until the stems are boiled [not like paste]
  • In a frying pan add 1 tsp of oil and fry all  grains like dhaniya , urad dal , chana dal , red chillies and til seeds and keep aside 
  • When cool  ground them into a fine powder 

  • By adding  tamarind or thinthakaya tokku  , garlic pods and salt 
  • Now when the powder is ready add  cooked  bachhali kura and coarsely grind the kura and add chopped onions and coarsely grind once [ not like paste onions should be seen ]
  • Take into a bowel and  again keep the pan  add 2 tsp of oil add all talimpu ingredients and when start spllutering  remove from heat add to chutney and mix well and 
  • Serve hot  steamed rice  with it  with a drop of ghee .
 This is chintakaya  thokku  with a spoon
