Dalcha can easily be made with dal thoor, and it is mostly prepared
by
muslim’s .And as my mom in law in her
child hood stayed more in muslim areas and is very found of tasting different
type of recipes she tried this one and learn how to make this Dalcha.I often
heard about Dalcha being talked about in reference to Biryani. Yet I never saw
my mom preparing this recipe with Biryani,I was very curious of learning this
one and my wish was fulfilled after getting my marriage as in my inlaws house they
do this Dalcha when ever they prepare Biryani. As my son dear refuses to eat
just plain Biryani with Raitha Yet another gravy that to our rescue,even though
we use to prepare with Biryani I for got this item My mom in law remaind me
when they came to summer holidays we remembered this one.
As coming to the recipe there are two types one with vegetables and
one original dhalcha for veg biryani as it only has lot of vegetables no need
to add,Let’s go the recipe.

- chana dal - 1 glass
- Tamarind paste - 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/3 tsp
- Onions - 2 sliced
- Tomatoes - 2 finely chopped
- Curry leaves - 10
- Salt as per
- Garlic ginger and coriander leaves paste / birynai masala paste - 3/4 tsp
- Water - as per
Method of preparation -
- First wash chana dal and soak them in water for ten mint's and cook it into a fine paste by addind turmeric paste,then add red chilli powder and keep aside like this.........
- Take a nonstick vessle and add 2 tsp of oil and add all talimpu ingredients and when start to fry add onion and fry to golden color and then add masala paste and fry till it leaves nice aroma or brown color
- Then add chopped tomatoes and fry until soft on low heat and r
- When onions and tomatoes become soft add salt and tamarind paste and dal paste which we added red chilli powder and mix well and check the consistency of water [it should be like thick samber]and let it cook
- After it gets to boil remove from heat and serve this dalcha with hot hot Birynai with curd raitha.
Madam, I have been looking for this recipe from long time. Thanks for posting a step by step. Can you please confirm if we have to use Chana Dal or Toor Dal in the recipe as you have mentioned toor dal in the begining whereas in ingredients you have mentioned Chana Dal.
